Semester-end wrap-up

There's no way I can sum up a whole years worth of school in one post, so I won't even try.

But this year, among other things, has brought not one, but two, count 'em two girls with mothers who are murderers.

I'd known about the one, but the other was news to me. The news was related to me one Thursday thusly:

Me (taking roll): "Where's Kia?"

Student (very nonchalantly) "She ain't here."

Other student (just as bored): "It's Thursday. She visiting her Mama in prison today. She don't come on Thursday."

Me: "Oh. Ok. Let's turn to page 51...."


I'd met Kia's mother once. Very nice woman. Very articulate, concerned....a model parent actually. Seems she has something of a temper however.

She shot a police officer. Killed him.

Now, I don't know the details of the incident, but knowing what I do of the NOPD, let's just say, I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt.
The other student's mother is still on the lamb, still hasn't been found. Seems she (much more mundanely) just shot her husband.

Both girls by the way, are sweet as can be...and whip smart.

I can't wait for the summer.
